We finally moved!! 4-19-2010

It has been a long time since I’ve had any updates to give.  I’ve been working nonstop the past 4 months, and haven’t seen Rizzie much at all.  But I finally found a new barn that is absolutely amazing!  We moved yesterday, and it was thankfully very uneventful.  Rizzie loaded perfectly and settled in right away without one worried winny.  She munched hay like she’d lived there all her life.

I’m shocked and amazed.  She is a bit “homesick,” but it is only because she hasn’t made any friends yet.  She got turned out with an old gelding today and supposedly did great.  I love my horse!  She is so well-behaved, especially compared to some of the others in the barn.  I just hope she doesn’t pick up any bad habits.  A lot of the horses pin their ears when you walk by their stalls… Arizen loves attention, and I’d hate for her to turn sour towards people or other horses.

Other than that, everything is perfect!  The stalls are clean, the arena is perfectly groomed, the turnout is plenty, the air is non-dusty and bright…. So on to a few pictures of our first day:

  1. Wow, you sure do find lovely barns! Rizzie looks happy and at home! I wouldn’t worry about picking up habits too much — Solo has lived around lots of ear-pinners and he remains my bright perky happy boy to this day; since I’ve had him those ears have never gone back save for when clumsy mum loses her balance over a jump and gouges him in the flanks. Oops.

    • Thanks! That’s good to know. Some of the horses are just nasty when you walk by their stalls. Rizzie’s neighbor is a bit of a loon… he will lunge at people and I think he is old with some mental problems. But he loves Riz… he’s a strange horse.

The barn is great, but a lot more money that I was hoping to spend. Still, I’m glad that Riz is happy and I think I’m going to be very happy here as well. We’re starting our third week at the barn and our third week of our new workout routine. Things are coming along slowly, but I just talked to in-house trainer there and expressed my interest in starting up lessons again once I can get Riz to the point of at least being able to trot for 20 minutes! I can’t wait to get back into lessons!!

  2. Yay! I’m excited for you! Is the new barn closer to you?

    • Thanks! It’s still about 45 minutes from me, but the drive really isn’t bad. There are a lot of people that board there that live and work in Chicago. I absolutely love it, and it is well worth the money! Riz loves it, too! BTW, how is Lily? Are you ever going to update your blog?
